When I was a little girl, I always told my mom and friends, "I want to be a journalist! I love reading and watching news! I love how they read news on TV..." While my siblings were laughing and playing in our room, I'll sneak to the living room and watch news, my favourite channels being BBC and Channels TV.
Later on, the story changed. "I want to be a linguist. I want to be a public relations officer. I want to be a diplomat..." The wishful ambitions kept changing. I reached the senior years of secondary school education and was advised and encouraged by peers, teachers, family and friends to study Law, that it suits me, and that I could speak and argue well.
As God would have it, I gained admission into the University to study Communication. Looking at it now, I think it's the doing of the Lord. Now, what I enjoy most is reading, writing and gathering facts, which are actually what journalists do. When I ponder and wonder about it, I don't think I would have been this happy if I were to be studying Law.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing to study Law. What I'm saying is, go for what you love best, not what people say would suit you best. And you'll love it.
That's why I go about with my journal and pen. I am El Shava.
