Some time ago, I asked a young woman this simple question: What do you really want? She smiled. I wasn't quite sure why. Maybe it was the unspoken understanding between us, that she was going through the motions of life, doing things without fully grasping where they were leading. She was on autopilot. (I'm not saying you can always know what anything is leading to. But you should feel comfortable in your heart that you're doing the right thing or in the right place. If not, you're on autopilot.)
There's a common assumption that life will somehow figure itself out. That somewhere along the randomness of routine and the occasional stroke of serendipity, we'll stumble upon our "treasure box." If that's what you believe, well, good for you.
(Truthfully, I'm not here to tell anyone how to live their life. Most days, I can't even tell myself how to live mine, but that's a conversation for another time.)
Back to the main question: What do you really want?
At a macro level, zooming out, you might say you want to be a visionary engineer, a thoughtful friend, a devoted partner, a spiritual guide, and a purpose-driven entrepreneur driven to build world-class digital experiences that merge elegant design with cutting-edge technical excellence.
But zooming in, things get more granular. What do you want for yourself personally? Physically? Spiritually? Socially? Health-wise? In your relationships, your marriage, your character? The list can get long, and let’s face it, humans don't do so well with micro-complexities.
Still, the question remains: What do you really want?
And more importantly, do your daily, weekly, and yearly choices reflect that desire? I hope they do, but if not, today is a good day to repent.
Can't wait to see what you write.
