We all are very familiar with each of these words. The fickle capabilities of these words can't be vaguely understated. They are also quite interwoven that it is quite impossible to discern their differences and interrelation. Okay a quick story.
A friend asked me question, that I couldn't have possibly thought would ever come out of his mouth. His question was; "Why exactly do people do bad things?" At that moment I had no answer for him. We met again and I asked for his reason behind that question and he gave me a back story. He comes from quite a religious background. His Dad a Reverend father and his own father an Imam , His Mom an Evangelist and her own Father the founder of a church. He told me how one day things fell apart for his family. He was too emotional to tell what exactly went wrong but he concluded with his parents are in court with a divorce case. After I gave a short speech of 'ginger' and 'life comes with challenges' talk, he rephrased his question and asked again, "What exactly are we living for?"
Love is beautiful. Beautiful and dangerous. It makes even the strongest of men/women do weak and unreasonable things. Now interwoven with society and religion it makes us delusional and delirious. My answer to my friend that day was "We are not living for anything". Millions die every year without leaving a mark in this world. Not because they did not try or they did not do enough, but simply because they were disadvantaged.
Now how's all of these related to the Nigerian Youth. That's a pretty simple question! These demographic I believe are one of the most disadvantaged group in the world. The pressure is crazy. We are also one of the most religious set of humans on the planet. Now is that good thing or a bad thing? Our deluded definition of Love is misconstrued by the ample effects of religion and society in contrast to the minute references of reality. We want the Telenovela kind of love mixed with the lavishness of Bollywood and sprinkles of legitimate spirituality. We dream a lot, and most of the dreams will never be reality.
Love, Society, and religion can't really be separated but it should be clearly differentiated. Love in itself is a feeling that is sprout up by the misconstrual frenzy of good moments which is influenced by the Society and Religion. None of these matters, what matters is how we use or misuse such a powerful tool in shaping our behaviour in the society.
I'm not done with this Topic just yet! Digest this and stay tuned!
