Man, warra way to end the week. I’m sure you know the exact ‘gist’ I’m talking about. ‘Socialite’ is starting to have an underlying meaning.
From the hours in traffic to the bubbling nightlife and culture, Lagos gives inexhaustible measures for socialization. Social life, they say, is essential to longer lifespans. But thinking about it, socializing in Lagos is on a whole ‘nother level.
What exactly does it mean to socialize and how is the brand in Lagos different? Participating in social activities to foster a sense of belonging and connection by enabling individuals to build relationships, acquire social skills while also minimizing loneliness and isolation. Now that ‘connection’ and ‘building of relationships’ part is where Lagos comes in. Climbing up the social ladder is what the socialization tool is employed for. We have young people aspiring to be what their favorite socialite shows them on Snapchat. And I can’t even blame them. They are living the life.
Truth is, there is some honest living in the midst of all that shady stuff. Another truth is, there is a whole lot of shadiness, believe! I’m sorry but if you cannot point us to a legit source of income then you are into shady business. Oh ye snapchatters, can you confidently hand your favorite Lagos socialite the mic and trust them to point us to a legit source of income? Yeah, I did not think so.
You know what I think? I think our society is a product of the people. There’s so much to be done to instill good morals and values and erm just goodness really. Will any of us do the same thing they are doing if given the chance? Your answer is the exact reason we are in this mess in the first place.
It’s important to note that this post does not discredit the many hardworking young people with legit businesses and income streams. I need young people to also understand that it is indeed possible to ‘chop life’ and do it morally and legally. Lagos is a vibrant city, this happens in many vibrant cities. So it’s a norm. Should it be a norm though?
One more truth? That ‘gist’ was interesting. (***pulls hoodie over head and walks to a dark corner of the room to let out a chuckle***)
